Advantages

1. High Heat Resistance: PA 46 has a high heat distortion temperature, generally above 250°C, and some grades can even reach 290°C. This enables it to maintain good mechanical properties and dimensional stability in high-temperature environments, making it suitable for manufacturing components that work under high temperatures, such as parts around automobile engines.

2. High Strength and Rigidity: It exhibits excellent tensile strength (up to over 100 MPa) and bending strength, with good rigidity. It can withstand high external forces and loads, making it ideal for manufacturing structural components subject to high pressure and stress.

3. Good Wear Resistance: PA 46 has excellent wear resistance and a low friction coefficient, which reduces wear of components during friction and prolongs service life. It is commonly used to make parts requiring wear resistance, such as gears and bearings.

4. Excellent Chemical Resistance: It shows good tolerance to many chemical substances, such as acids, alkalis, and oils, maintaining stable performance in different chemical environments without easy corrosion. It can be used in scenarios involving various chemical media.

5. High Crystallinity: It has a fast crystallization rate and high crystallinity, which helps improve the material’s mechanical properties and thermal stability. This allows it to solidify quickly during molding, enhancing production efficiency.

Disadvantages

1. High Hygroscopicity: PA 46 easily absorbs moisture from the air. After 吸濕 (hygroscopicity), its dimensional stability decreases, and mechanical properties may also be affected—for example, tensile strength and modulus may decrease. Therefore, moisture protection is required during use and storage, and drying treatment is usually necessary before processing and molding.

2. High Processing Difficulty: Due to its high melting point and narrow processing temperature range, it imposes high requirements on processing equipment and techniques. Parameters such as temperature, pressure, and time must be strictly controlled during processing; otherwise, product defects such as bubbles and deformation are likely to occur.

3. High Cost: Compared with some common engineering plastics, PA 46 has higher production costs, leading to a relatively high market price. This somewhat limits its application in cost-sensitive fields.
